It's possible that sharepoint is managed via a special open/save close process which copies the file to local. I just thought I'd mention the possibility if the ASFileSys doesn't do the required magic.

You cannot use Acrobat on a server - so its a non-starter. Adobe, however, has a product called LiveCycle PDF Generator which is designed for server-side PDF generation.
