I don't know how much we can help you. I've never heard of anyone outside Adobe doing such a thing, because the Acrobat text selection tool that is already there is good enough for many purposes. You will need detailed study of the text selection callbacks. There is a sample selection server for images. This is much simpler of course, but you should understand it all as your starting point. You'll also have to decide how to actually implement the highlighting, including repainting when the pageview is redrawn. This might have to use platform dependent code if the crude pageview drawing tools aren't enough. A big project. Good luck!
