No, I have not found anything in documentation that suggests that I could do that 
But, to be fair, I also did not find anything about Adobe discontinuing their support for custom URLs (my links work fine with Adobe Reader 9, somewhat work with Reader X, depending on the default browser, and do not work at all in Reader XI. I simply *HAVE* to take matters in my own hands in order to support my customers.
Since I register my own function weblinkDriver.followLink in RegisterWeblinkDriver, I was hoping that there is a way to call whoever was handling those links before me...
