Okay, so can you tell me what API can we use to draw to the screen in a 64-bit Acrobat plug-in on Mac? We absolutely need this ability, and we need it right away to be able to support Acrobat DC. Otherwise, we're going to lose our Mac install base, and Adobe is going to lose business too.
Even if we had been part of the pre-release program, you say that the SDK for Acrobat DC is still not available. So we still would not be able to offer our users an Acrobat DC plug-in today, right?
It may be true that users had to choose to update manually, but most didn't seem to realize that this "update" would remove their existing Acrobat XI installs and plug-ins, nor that their plug-ins might not be compatible. Yes, I see that you've been busy on various around the Internet telling both your users and other plug-in developers that they're Doing. It. Wrong., but that only demonstrates the insufficiency of the communication.
Regarding the pre-release program, the last time we tried to sign up for one, for Acrobat X, we sent an email as instructed, and got a reply back saying that "invitation to the program is dependent on product team’s approval and program’s requirement," and then never heard from anyone again. I guess we weren't approved. Nor did I ever receive a similar email inviting me to join any pre-release program for Acrobat XI or DC.
As for the announcement of DC, I'm not sure what exactly "around the web" I was supposed to have been checking or looking for frequently to keep abreast of these things. Also, the press release makes no mention of major architectural changes to Acrobat, specifically going all 64-bit on Mac, which is crucial information for plug-in developers. Nor did any of the blog posts or other articles last month mention 64-bit, as far as I can tell. A Google search for "Acrobat DC Mac 64-bit" with the date range set from March 1 to April 5 doesn't return any hits noting that 32-bit plug-ins wouldn't be supported. Yet you seem to think that we should have just known about this.
I do log into this forum fairly frequently, since I can't get it to reliably send me email. Would it have been so hard to put up a notice on the Acrobat SDK forum page? Or send a note to members? Or something to explicitly make sure that plug-in developers are kept in the loop about new versions and major compatibility issues?
